PROMOTING NETBALL SKILLS GROWTH

GRADING PROCESS

GRADING PROCESS

At West Coburg Netball Club, we want every player to feel supported, challenged, and part of a team they can grow with. From Under 13s and above, players are graded into teams based on ability to ensure fair competition, balanced teams, and the best possible experience for everyone on court. Grading helps us provide the right environment for development while keeping the game fun and inclusive for all.

❓ Why does WCNC have a grading process?

Grading helps us create fair, fun and balanced teams so everyone can enjoy playing netball and grow their skills. It also means players get to compete in a team and division that suits their ability.

❓ Does grading mean some players might not get placed in a team?

No! If you're already playing at WCNC, you’ll always have a spot on a team. New players may go on a waitlist if teams are full.

❓ Who does the grading?

Grading is done by external assessors who watch players on Grading Day and give feedback and recommended teams. Our WCNC Grading Committee, made up of coordinators and our club president, uses this feedback to form teams.

❓ When does grading happen?

Grading takes place once a year at the end of the Parkville Spring Season. The teams formed will usually stay the same for the next Autumn and Spring seasons.

❓What happens on Grading Day?

Before Grading Day, you’ll be asked to choose your two preferred positions. On the day, you may also be asked to try other positions so we can see how you play in different roles. Everyone may not get equal time on court, but we do our best to assess fairly.

❓Can I ask to be in a team with my friends?

We understand it's fun to play with friends, but to keep teams fair and balanced, we generally can’t take friendship or carpool requests. However, we encourage you to see this as a great opportunity to make new friends!
