The Federal Government launched the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) in 2008 with the aim of increasing the supply of new and affordable rental dwellings by providing an annual financial incentive to housing providers to provide affordable rental dwellings at least 20 per cent below market rates for up to 10 years.

CHIA has initiated work with the Federal Department of Social Services on the establishment of formal consultation and issues management for community housing providers.
